Japan had their Start Festival event today and it shared upcoming product info, tournaments, promos and more!
The Lorcana Japan launch event is going on today and lots of details are in for the future Japan plans!
Lorcana Start Festival
First up, the Lorcana launch event held in Japan today is officially named as the “Start Festival”.
Lots of activities are available at the event, such as a free battle corner, photo corner, merchandise corner, stage activities and the chance to challenge Steve Warner!
Also by purchasing at least 5000 yen worth of products, Illumineers would receive either 1 of the above 2 pins (given randomly).
Overall, it looks like lots of people attended the event and had lots of fun!
Upcoming Releases
First up, Rise of the Floodborn (Known as フラッドボーンの渾沌 in Japanese) is due for release on 22 March 2025, just under 2 months away from the release for The First Chapter which was on 25 January 2025.
Pre-Orders for Rise of the Floodborn in Japan begin tomorrow, and the products available for the set are similar, with a 6 card booster pack (16 per box), 2 starter decks, 2 sleeves and 2 playmats.
Rise of the Floodborn Start Tour
The previously reported Disney Lorcana Tour events have gotten an updated name as Disney Lorcana Start Tour.
During these events, promo cards for Rise of the Floodborn will be distributed early.
(However these cards will only be legal for use after Rise of the Floodborn Japanese set is released)
The “Start Tour” will feature beginning tutorial sessions and special tournaments so if you are in town during the dates, go check them out!
To help everyone, here are the dates that were previously announced for this event series.
- 23 February, 2025 (Sunday) – Exhibition Hall B, Ikebukuro Sunshine City, Tokyo
- 1 March, 2025 (Saturday) – Hakata International Exhibition & Conference Center, Fukuoka
- 2 March, 2025 (Sunday) – Wink Aichi, Aichi
- 8 March, 2025 (Saturday) – My Dome Osaka, Osaka
- 15 March, 2025 (Saturday) – Yume Messe Miyagi, Miyagi
Set Championship
Similar to the English version, set championships will begin with Into the Inklands (Known as インクランド探訪) and will start between mid May till early July (which probably means Into the Inklands is expected to be released in mid May).
Prizes look to be similar, including promo cards of Stitch – Rock Star and 2 different playmats, 1 for the champion and the other likely for 2nd place, similar to how set championships worked before the recently announced upcoming change. There is currently no mention on how many promo cards will be given per event.
Disney Lorcana Grand Prix
They also announced the Disney Lorcana Grand Prix event, which looks to be the Japanese version of Challenge events!
This will be a large scale tournament where participants can win the right to participate in the “Disney Lorcana Japan Championship 2026” (tentative name), scheduled to be held in 2026.
Two Grand Prix events are currently announced as follows:
First Grand Prix:
Event Date: 31 May 2025 (Saturday)
Venue: Belle Salle Takadanobaba (Tokyo)
Second Grand Prix:
Event Date: 26 July 2025 (Saturday)
Venue: Tokyo Big Sight
More large-scale events will continue to be held after the summer and event details will be released at a later date.
Promo versions of Cinderella – Stouthearted and Rapunzel – Gifted with Healing will be among some of the event exclusive promotional cards that can be obtained from these events!
The Disney Lorcana Grand Prix definitely looks interesting and I expect many fans will want to travel over to these events. However, it is also interesting that they announced the events as a 1 day event.
No details are mentioned yet, but if the outcome is as big as everyone expects tournaments in Japan to be, this could end up to be the first official BO1 (Best of 1) Disney Lorcana tournaments or it could be tough to finish the whole event in just 1 day. That said, more details are needed and hopefully we get them soon!
